2019 Living Legacy Award
Living Legacy Award
2019 Oak Grove High Living Legacy Recipient
We received several GREAT nominations for the Oak Grove High School PTO “Living Legacy Award” including some beloved figures that we were surprised to find out were not alumni of OGHS.
The committee is proud to announce that the inaugural recipient of our 2019 Living Legacy Award is MR. MALCOLM GUNTER.
Mr Malcolm is a 1957 graduate of OGHS and has been a constant figure at his alma mater over the continuing years. He was president of the Student Council and boxed during his high school years. He wasn’t able to participate in the other available sports at OGHS due to work obligations before and after school. He has had 4 children and 9 grandchildren graduate from OGHS.
He has been an active member of the Oak Grove Booster Club for over 40 years and served as President for approximately 20 of those years. During his tenure, he was instrumental in organizing charter buses to away games for the fans who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend. He also implemented the annual Booster Club Auction that is still a major fundraiser for OGHS to this day. His late wife, Mrs Ruby Gunter, proudly painted a portrait every year to be donated to the event.
Mr Malcolm has continued to support and attend all OGHS sporting events that he can whether he has a child or grandchild playing or not. He has only missed 1 home football game and 2 or 3 away games that he can recall. The 1 home game that he missed due to being in Colorado at the time, he recollected calling in to KWCL to be able to hear the winning play of the game.
Seign Shivers Stephenson stated in her nomination, “...a true Tiger to the core...and there is no one more deserving!”
Candy Gunter proudly nominated her father as well stating, “I’ve never known a more dedicated father to his children and our friends nor have I known a more dedicated person to OGHS and all the school entails.”
Please join us at “Meet the Tigers” Friday, August 23rd, at Tiger Stadium at 7:00 for the award presentation.
